Anything in which you can add colour pixel by pixel. So from photoshop to mspaint. I know some people who use paint.net but I personally use gimp. There's no right or wrong program.

detail is less "OMG I should Add Detail" and more "if this were a real person/object/building what would be there"

Like right at this moment I'm wearing jeans and a t shirt, but my jeans have seams down the side, and studs at the top, my socks have a hole in them round the toe, my t shirt has seams at the shoulder and a wide hem at the neckline and a design right down the front, it's sort of bunched up at one side because of how I'm sitting. My hair is sticking out at a slightly odd angle due to my headphones. So you can quite easily take what is a boring outfit, and make it interesting without having to give me pink hair, or a corset or 6 inch stillettos. It's the little real things that make stuff interesting, not the 'crazy out there' things.

yeah, then again, i havent made anything look realistic enough to properly be able to shade it o.o i'm hoping to try that soon; even in my regular drawing im bad at trying to find places where wrinkles should be or how to draw seams that don't look awkward >.<'

you don't know, you find out.

Everything can be found in life. I'm forever looking in the mirror. I have some long bits of material I drape over a stool to see how they fall so I can draw that on a skirt. Art isn't about making stuff up but about the ability to use your imagination applied to the world around you.
